We asked our staff why teach at Bay House? This is what they said:
A few of our international colleagues speak about their experiences of working at Bay House School and Sixth Form and in the English education system.
The Young People
'It’s definitely the young people at Bay House. There is something about them and they are so warm and genuine.’
We make a difference together
‘There’s nothing better than knowing we make a difference and we really do here at Bay House.’
2016 saw us achieve a Progress 8 score of +0.5, representing our best ever progress performance. 83% of pupils achieved an A*-C i/GCSE grade in English and in the Mathematics GCSE 74% of pupils achieved A*-C. We are delighted with the superb achievements of our Year 11s last academic year, as under the government's Progress 8 measure for the best eight subjects, these were the school's best ever results and will be judged as outstanding.
Our outstanding Sixth Form
Bay House Sixth Form, established in 1996, has grown rapidly in recent years due to the outstanding examination results: the A Level A*-C pass rate was 88% last year, compared to a national figure of 77%. Graded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2014, we have around 480 students, almost half of whom join us from other schools. Approximately 90% of students choose to continue their studies at university, with the overwhelming majority securing a place at their first-choice institution. Of these, at least twice the national average gain places at Russell Group Universities.
The recent OFSTED inspection team noted that 'The Sixth Form is judged to be outstanding in every respect'.
We share a sense of purpose
Our last OFSTED inspection in 2014 noted that ‘staff share a significant moral purpose’ and that there is a ‘secure and shared vision across the school.’
‘We are all travelling on the same journey and heading in the same direction.’
The extensive professional learning opportunities available to all staff
Our professional learning menu gives each teacher a wide choice of options, complimented by departmental and pastoral professional learning. We work across networks of schools so that every teacher’s professional development can be personalised. There are also many opportunities to work alongside outstanding ‘lead practitioners’ within the school, who have gained accreditation through national programmes.
Our strong sense of community and working together
‘There is a strong ethos of being together and working together. There’s a special Bay House spirit in the staff that work here.’
