Co-curricular Performing Arts

Highlights from some of our recent co-curricular Performing Arts productions.

Five Beaches

Written to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the play Five Beaches depicts soldiers crossing the channel and the run-in to each of the beaches in Normandy in June 1944.

Featuring a ten-strong all-male cast drawn from Bay House’s years 10, 11 and sixth form, the play debuted at the D-Day museum in Portsmouth on Remembrance Sunday 2014 before touring in the local community and being performed multiple times at Bay House for students and staff.

The feedback for the performers was outstanding; the cast were subsequently invited to appear at the Hampshire County Council Chairman’s Concert, Winchester; at the Explosion Museum, Gosport; and the Southwick Festival.

The Edelweiss Pirates by Ayub Khan Din

Performed on the 10th, 11th and 12th February by Year Ten, Eleven, Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth as part of the National Theatre Connections Project 2015.

GERMANY 1943. The Second World War rages into its fourth year. Around Germany, small groups of youth form themselves into societies. Some just to listen and dance to banned music and be with like-minded teenagers. Others are becoming more aware that it is they, the youth of the country, who have to start resisting the Nazis, in whatever what they can. One such group is THE EDELWEISS PIRATES of Cologne.

A group who has found the courage to say no, enough is enough. There are still people in Germany with a conscience and moral convictions to stand up to the regime even though they may have to pay a terrible price for their convictions.

"An amazing production performed to an exceptional standard"

"Great performances from the cast- really mature and emotional. You didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at times"

"I was impressed with the discipline, the preparation and the total commitment of the whole cast"
