MUSIC
The Music department currently consists of 4 specialist teachers and is located in its own wing of the main building containing 3 specialist classrooms all equipped with keyboards; 7 practice rooms; an instrument store room and a newly created ICT suite.
Pupils are taught in their mixed ability tutor groups during Year 7 and their English sets during Years 8 and 9. Class sizes in Year 9 are reduced by the department’s policy of splitting 2 English sets into 3 Music teaching groups creating a greater chance for all pupils to achieve or exceed their potential. There are ample opportunities for the enrichment of the gifted and talented both in lessons and through the extensive range of extra-curricular activities (see link below for more details).
In addition to the academic lessons, the department offers instrumental tuition through its 8 specialist visiting peripatetic teachers in violin, viola, 'cello, double bass, piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, all brass instruments, drum kit and voice. N.B. Pupils are required to pay a contribution towards the total cost of these lessons of £60 per term per instrument.
