MATHEMATICS CLUBS & ACTIVITIES
Jaguar Cars Club
Jaguar Cars Club meets every Wednesday and Thursday after school in M8. The Jaguar Cars Challenge is a national mathematics competition involving a piece of software that pupils use to design and adapt a sports car in order to compete against each other in teams. At the club pupils hone their techniques and compete against each other to earn a place in the team which will represent the school in the national challenge.
In June 2009 a team from Bay House School was awarded 1st place in the KS3 age range at the national Jaguar Cars championship. We hope to build on this success in the coming years.
The UKMT Maths Challenge
The UKMT Maths Challenge has three tiers Junior, Intermediate and Senior Maths Challenges which cater for pupils of different ages. The competition involves a multi-choice test which involves solving, usually quite tricky, problems. Pupils can achieve a bronze, silver or gold certificate and the highest achieving students can go on to progress to further levels including the Olympiad.
Outside Maths School Trips
Outside school trips and visits are organised throughout the year. Recently organised trips have included a maths trail around Marwell Zoo for Year 7 and Year 10, and attending a ‘Maths Inspiration’ Lecture at Reading University for Sixth Formers.
In House Maths Competitions
In house competitions are run throughout the year, including the monthly specialist school challenge run in partnership with the ICT department.
