MATHEMATICS
The Mathematics Department is very strong with a team of twenty-one members of staff, all of whom are Maths Specialists. The Department is situated in a magnificent modern building containing thirteen designated mathematics classrooms and a computer suite.
Pupils are set for Mathematics from early in Year 7 to enable every child to work at the appropriate level. Our aim is to ensure that each child reaches his or her potential. Classes for those who find Mathematics challenging are small and there is lunch time session for the development of numeracy skills. There are ample opportunities for the enrichment of the gifted and talented both in lessons and through the extensive range of extra-curricular activities.
Throughout the year there are many mathematical events and competitions in which pupils are encouraged to participate: Maths Club, the Jaguar Cars Club, the UKMT Maths Challenge, masterclasses at Southampton University to name a few.
The Department has an excellent reputation for its post-16 provision, attracting many students from local schools. Students are prepared for Oxbridge entrance each year, many of them securing places to read Mathematics or Mathematics related subjects.
